WHITESNAKE - New Studio Album
[18.03.2007]
WHITESNAKE frontman David Coverdale has issued the following update:
"I am thrilled, erect nipples an' all, with the new songs [for the upcoming WHITESNAKE album, tentatively titled 'Good to be Bad'] and very excited to be presenting them to [the fans] later this year. SPV's [Records] wishlist is for an October release, so we're not having to pressure ourselves with too extreme a deadline. God willing, those days be gone. As far as touring, it appears this will also be late summer, as the ENTIRE WORLD is out there on the road thro' the summer, doing their very best to seduce y'all. My U.S. agent told me that every single amphitheatre in every major city in the States has a 'name' act headlining every night of the week this season... So unless any significant touring opportunity presents itself I think we'll concentrate on making a cracking record that will make us all proud...
"I was talking with Doug [Aldrich, WHITESNAKE guitarist] recently that I was thinking that some of the new [WHITESNAKE] songs could use some of Glenn's [Hughes, Coverdale's ex-DEEP PURPLE bandmate] extraordinary singing, but, just a thought at this time. I haven't discussed anything with him. We shall have to see how that goes, so please don’t be holding me to anything. Glenn and I were in touch recently, with him telling me about his tour in Russia. He tells me there is great interest in a DEEP PURPLE Mk. 3 reunion over there."

It will also be Hannes Grossmann's very last drumming duty for NECROPHAGIST, who played drums on the band's last album, 'Epitaph', and all tours following the 2004 release. URIAH HEEP Announces New Drummer
[16.03.2007]
U.K. hard rock legends URIAH HEEP have announced the addition of drummer Russell Gilbrook to the group's ranks. He replaces Lee Kerslake, who left the band in January due to health reasons.
Russell is regarded as one of the U.K.'s finest drummers and clinicians and has demonstrated specialist drum clinics all over Europe. He has worked with such diverse artists as Tony Iommi (BLACK SABBATH), Van Morrison, John Farnham, Alan Price, Chris Barber and Lonnie Donnigan.
Gilbrook comments: "I am really excited to be joining a band with such a fantastic history and quality of musicianship and musicality. I am just as excited to be a part of the band's progress into the future, and I cannot wait to get in the recording studio because the songs we have already worked on are fantastic. This will hopefully take the band to a new level. I hope the fans will enjoy my playing and singing as much as the band and welcome me as a member of URIAH HEEP."
Comments URIAH HEEP founding member Mick Box: "Russell came to the auditon and blew us all away. He is one of the heaviest drummers I have ever heard. We spent two days auditoning a shortlist of twelve drummers from 120 applicants and once Russell started playing we just knew he was the man for the job. There were smiles all around and he made the drum stool his.
"We were never looking for a clone of Lee Kerslake as that would have been an impossible task as there is only one Lee. Had we taken that stance we would have in effect stood still. We were looking for someone who can come into the band and energize it and have a wealth of ideas, especially for the new songs and give us a new lease of life. Russell did just that and his appointment comes at the start of an exciting new phase in the band's career. We hope the fans will feel the same way once they have heard him play and sing."
BEHEMOTH - Begins Mixing 'The Apostasy'
[16.03.2007]
Polish extreme metal titans BEHEMOTH have started mixing their new album, "The Apostasy", at Dug-Out studios in Uppsala, Sweden with Daniel Bergstrand (MESHUGGAH, IN FLAMES, STRAPPING YOUNG LAD).
Commented mainman Nergal: "Finally I made it to Sweden. I know, we owe you the new video report and some news but lately things were just insane here and physically I wasn't able to deal with anything but recordings. Last few weeks I spent in the studio in Poland were nothing but constant struggle. Tracking down the record for three months straight (!!!) led us to the point where we no longer were able to judge the results objectively. Needless to say, it was me who fanatically tried to complete the recordings with the best possible result. It took me some time to realize that I could go on like this…forever. I'm happy I finally said STOP so we could move on. I still lack objectivism and all I have now is pure faith that THIS is so far the most completed record we've ever committed as a band. The performance on 'The Apostasy' is simply awesome and I have to say that we really outdone ourselves this time.
"Anyway, I'm here in up in the north of this beautiful country, in a little town Uppsala. Daniel is currently putting the final touches to drums. Earlier today we compared this to our last record 'Demigod'. And let me tell you something…we REALLY beat that record! Drums sound sooo tight and intense that's almost impossible to keep up tempo, ha ha. I already see these comments saying that's humanly impossible to play THAT fast and technical, ha ha. We are starting with guitars and bass tomorrow. Also today I managed to download guest vocals to the song called 'Inner Sanctum' but I'm not gonna reveal any names, yet. Sit tight and be surprised. Cross fingers my friends! I'll be back shortly with a longer update and hopefully some video footage from the studio!"
After mixing the record, BEHEMOTH will join the No Mercy bill in Europe for two weeks. In April, Nergal & Co. will visit Israel for one exclusive show and shortly after will fly out to U.S. for a mini tour. An extensive Russian tour is planned for May this year as well as the band's first visit to the Balkans.
METALLICA - Begins Recording New Album
[15.03.2007]
The following message has been posted on METALLICA's official web site:
"METALLICA left the comfort of HQ this week to descend upon the greater Los Angeles area to begin recording their ninth original album. This is the first time they've recorded outside of the Bay Area since they spent an eternity at One On One Studios recording the 'Black' album in '90 and '91. The last couple days have been devoted to each band member working out the right sounds, including Lars [Ulrich, drums] who remembered to turn on the snare and Kirk [Hammett, guitar] who played a solo! The big, shiny red button was finally pushed today — and the wait begins.'

DEEDS OF FLESH - Parts Ways With Bassist/Vocalist; Replacement Announced
[14.03.2007]
Southern California death metallers DEEDS OF FLESH have parted ways with founding member Jacoby Kingston (bass, vocals). Taking his place in the group will be Erlend Caspersen from Norway.
Jacoby has issued the following statement on the matter:
"To begin, I want to express my gratitude to all of the DEEDS OF FLESH fans and friends out there who have supported me throughout my 14-year tenure as bassist/vocalist for the band. It makes me sad to know that I won't see a lot of you whom I have come to know so well. As for myself, I can no longer live the life of a traveling musician; therefore, I am giving up my position in the band to someone who can put 100% into it and keep the music going strong. I will continue to support the band and help out in any way I can. I still love death metal and all things dark and that will not change. This was a hard decision, but it is for the betterment of DEEDS. It would not be fair to my band mates to not put full effort into the music.
"Erland will do a kick-ass job in my place. Many of you have seen him play with VILE on the European and U.S. tours in 2006. The guy is a freakin' machine. He will play on the new album and will tour with the band. He is a great guy and I am glad someone like him will replace me."
SATYRICON - New Blood Wanted
[13.03.2007]
Norwegian black metallers SATYRICON have issued the following update:
"We are looking to recruit a rhythm guitar player and a bass player for our live band, with immediate effect.
"You are a skilled musician with some touring experience. Your age is of no big concern, if you are good enough, you are good enough. However, you need to be relentlessly hungry and ambitious in your work with SATYRICON. SATYRICON is during touring cycles, a very time consuming effort and SATYRICON would be your number one musical priority. If you do not wish to re-locate to Oslo our nearby, you will have to travel and be available for rehearsal in Oslo whenever called upon. We will consider candidates from anywhere in the world. If you think you have what it takes, you will be invited to come jam with SATYRICON in Oslo as soon as possible. When e-mailing us, take your time to tell us a little bit about your musical background as a player and as a fan. Also include some information about your age, where you live, what you do etc. This is your chance — take it! E-mail us at musician@satyricon.no."

[13.03.2007]
Finnish melodic metallers ALTARIA will release a compilation album, entitled "Divine Invitation", on May 25. "The compilation is a mid-price release made for fans!" the band writes on its web site. "Due to the high demand and ongoing requests for the songs of the completely sold out first two albums of the band, 'Invitation' (2003) and 'Divinity' (2004), the idea came up to make the best five songs each available again, to introduce new singer Marco Luponero with two brand new songs and add another seven (!) bonus tracks which originally appeared on the band's sought-after demos 'Sleeping Visions' (2001) and 'Feed The Fire' (2002)."

ALTARIA parted ways with vocalist Taage in early December. When we wanted Taage to invest more time for ALTARIA, he decided to quit. The band and Taage had different perspective on few other things, too, which might have been part of the reason he decided to leave the band."

CYNIC - Secures New Touring Guitarist
[13.03.2007]
The reunited CYNIC, whose 1993 album "Focus" is regarded as a landmark release in the field of technical/progressive metal, has abandoned plans to utilize the services of AGHORA's Santiago Dobles for its upcoming tour. According to the band, "due to the commitment required for the reunion, it was mutually agreed that another guitar player would be better suited." A new guitarist has already been found and will be announced in the next couple of weeks. The rest of the group's lineup will consist of Paul Masvidal (vocals, guitar), Sean Reinert (drums, keys), Tony Teegarden (vocals, keyboards) and Chris Kringel (bass).
Kringel, who replaces Sean Malone (who can't participate in the reunion because of teaching and work commitments) in CYNIC's reunion lineup, has been involved with the band since the pre-"Focus" days and toured with the band in Europe in support of the CD. He also played bass on the classic and much-sought-after PORTAL demos and toured the U.K. with Paul and Sean's AEON SPOKE project. Teegarden also previously toured with CYNIC in support of "Focus".
According to Masvidal, guitarist Jason Gobel was approached about participating in the reunion, but was forced to turn it down due to family and work commitments. However, he gave the rest of the group his blessings to proceed.
CYNIC will embark on a three-week European tour beginning mid-June, which will include dates in U.K., Iceland, Holland, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Austria and Switzerland. So far the band has been confirmed for the Hellfest and Fury Fest in France, Hovefestivalen in Norway and Evolution Festival in Italy. More dates will be announced soon.

METAL BLADE RECORDS - 25th Anniversary Celebration
[13.03.2007]
In 1982, Metal Blade Records began operating in a young Heavy Metal fan's mom's garage in suburban Los Angeles.
The result of that metal fan's enthusiasm was the first Metal Blade Records release, "Metal Massacre", a local band compilation that included METALLICA's first recorded release, BLACK N BLUE, MALICE, CIRITH UNGOL, DEMON FLIGHT, BITCH, AVATAR, and PANDEMONIUM.
Twenty-fve years later, in 2007, Metal Blade Records has grown into an international brand – occupying offices in the U.S., U.K., Germany, Canada and Japan — all the while maintaining its independent label identity and the original vision of founder and CEO Brian Slagel.
It was Slagel's enthusiasm for heavy metal as a fan that encouraged its humble beginnings and it is with that very same passion that Slagel has lead Metal Blade Records to the forefront of the genre.
Over the last five years, Metal Blade Records' strength in mining and developing new talent, lead to adding, at the time, stellar newcomers UNEARTH, AS I LAY DYING, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER and THE RED CHORD to the roster. As the young guns that would help propel Metal Blade Records forward, the bands combined to sell a staggering 1.5 million units in the U.S.
The labels' recent successes do not tell the whole story however. Metal Blade Records boasts one of the most comprehensive heavy metal catalogs in the world, including seminal releases by SLAYER, CANNIBAL CORPSE, GWAR, KING DIAMOND, SIX FEET UNDER, FATES WARNING, ARMORED SAINT, MERCYFUL FATE and many more.
With a current roster that includes, in addition to the artists mentioned above, AMON AMARTH, HATE ETERNAL, GOATWHORE, 3, EVERGREEN TERRACE, CATTLE DECAPITATION, SHAI HULUD and probably the most anticipated debut release from a metal band in years, JOB FOR A COWBOY, Metal Blade Records, at twenty five years old, is reaching its prime.
2007 will not only celebrate the 25 years of Metal Blade, it will also be the year that showcases new releases by artists that represent Metal Blade's future — the third, and highly anticipated album by AS I LAY DYING, the sophomore release by THE RED CHORD, and a debut album for JOB FOR A COWBOY. In addition 2007 will also see new releases KING DIAMOND, SIX FEET UNDER and THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER.
Throughout the years, Brian Slagel has become a prominent figure in the metal community, and continues to run Metal Blade Records independently without being an imprint of any major label.
Says Slagel: "I am really proud that Metal Blade has reached our 25th anniversary. It has been a great ride and we have worked with so many amazing people over the years. I have to thank all of our staff, artists, fans, writers, retail, radio, managers, agents and everyone else who helped us achieved this landmark. I look forward to the future as heavy metal and Metal Blade remain strong.”
To celebrate the significant milestone in Metal Blade's 25th year, there will be a Metal Blade Records 25th anniversary show at the New England Metal and Hardcore Festival on Saturday, April 28 at The Palladium in Worcester, PA. As a title sponsor of this event, Metal Blade Records artists will solely command both stages. The show will be filmed and recorded for a forthcoming release. MTV's "Headbanger's Ball" will also be on hand to film and interview artists and staffers for a special Metal Blade Records episode which will air on May 12.

CANNIBAL CORPSE - Bassist Checks In From Europe
[12.03.2007]
CANNIBAL CORPSE bassist Alex Webster has issued the following update:
"I just wanted to let you all know how our European tour is going so far. Today [March 8] we're playing in Slovenia, which will be the 14th show of the tour, so this show marks the halfway point. So far all of the shows have gone really well, the audiences have been excellent night after night. We also were very happy to finally play in Romania and Bulgaria. It was our first time playing in either of those countries, but it certainly won't be the last. Both countries have great death metal scenes, and we hope to return there when we tour for our next album. The other countries we've been through so far have been: France, Portugal, Spain, Italy, Greece, and Serbia, which was last night. We've met a ton of cool people at every show, so I'd like to say hello and thanks to any of you who might be reading this.
"OK, sound check is going to start in a few minutes, so I'd better get going. Thanks again to all the fans who have come to the shows so far; see the rest of you soon!"

World Under Blood - Another Song Posted Online
[11.03.2007]
WORLD UNDER BLOOD, the melodic death metal side project of CKY guitarist/vocalist Deron Miller, has uploaded its second completed track, "A God among the Waste", to its MySpace page.
WORLD UNDER BLOOD — which features Deron alongside drummer Tim Yeung (VITAL REMAINS, HATE ETERNAL) — recorded a total of three tracks during its recent sessions with engineer Logan Mader (MACHINE HEAD, SOULFLY): "Under the Autumn Low", "God Among the Waste", and "Dead and Still in Pain". Mixing duties are being handled by James Murphy (TESTAMENT, DEATH, OBITUARY).
Commented Miller: "James Murphy did an excellent job mixing this song, and I couldnt ask for it to be any better. This song truly exemplifies the unique dynamics of the band."
James Murphy stated: "WORLD UNDER BLOOD bridge a gap between genres that has never been bridged.... a few have tried with mixed results, but this is the first real resounding success of fusing brutal, blasting death metal with a melodic American rock vibe and it opens a door that will turn into a floodgate... I'm very happy to have been picked by Deron to mix this project ... he really pulls it together on this one musically and Tim's performance is stellar as well. Check it out!"
Deron Miller is widely credited for conceiving the long-awaited DEATH tribute project, "Within The Mind - In Homage To The Musical Legacy Of Chuck Schuldiner", as a means to help James Murphy raise money for his medical bills (Murphy is currently receiving treatment for a massive brain tumor with which he was diagnosed in August 2001).
The project, which has the blessing of the family of late DEATH mastermind Chuck Schuldiner (who passed away in December 2001 after a battle with pontine glioma, a rare type of brain tumor), has been in the works for the last couple of years and is expected to feature a number of special guest appearances, including those by members of SLIPKNOT, NEVERMORE, FEAR FACTORY, STATIC-X, and MALEVOLENT CREATION.

Gorefest Begins Recording New Album
[10.03.2007]
Dutch metallers GOREFEST have posted the following message on their official web site:
"We're well into our first week of recording the follow-up to 'La Muerte'. In this week all drum tracks have been recorded. Our drummer Ed [Warby] was on a roll and laid down all those brutal and demanding parts with breath taking ease. We shot some handy cam footage of the drum takes which you can find in the media section of this site. Ed like a fish in the water behind his new Sonor kit, bashing away on those beautiful Amedia cymbals."
"Monday Tue Madsen was over to make drum sounds and on Tuesday we made guitar and bass sound. Next Monday we will start with recording the rhythm guitars and bass guitar. If all goes well, this will take about a week and a half. After that it’s time for extra bits and pieces and the solos. In April JC will go over to the Antfarm studio in Denmark, where the mixing will take place, to record vocals."
